To this day Banda Bacana have built up a strong reputation for being a dance band and have gigged far and wide across the country bringing Afro Latin funk to people’s ears. We play a variety of different events, from Weddings and party’s, to pub and club gigs, right up to mini and larger festivals.
Just ask anyone who’s heard us and they’ll testify that they had trouble staying still because the grooves can REALLY grab you by the hips and make you swing.
Banda Bacana started out in 2003 as an offshoot of the local samba band in Bangor. John and Kate decided it would be a fun idea to get together and play some Bossa Nova’s with some percussion from Simon, Saxophone sounds from Sandy and some sassy vocals from local singer Joy Lily. The gigs they were playing were local events held at the Greenhouse, Shekina and local pubs where they became more and more popular going on to play mini festivals at Hendre Hall with Byd Mawr. Celebrate the summer with some funky afro latin dance grooves. Learn some new dance steps with Helen McGreary who will be leading us through some moves. Banda Bacana are playing 2 sets with DJ Onda Latina supporting with tunage from Reggaeton, Latin hip-hop and Salsa Moderna.
We are happy to that we are now running the latest version of WordPress. And as usual the lovely folk in the WordPress community kept us on the right track. As well as running new software on our website Banda Bacana is enjoying the summer!
We’ve been invited to play at some lovely events. Botanical Beats in Treborth Botanical Gardens was great! As usual the event was a colourful mix of music, food, art and crafts with a lovely friendly vibe, raising money and awareness about the Gardens and the work that goes on there. The photo above is taken by Edyta of Emagine Pictures. See more of Emagine’s wonderful photos of botanical beats on Facebook Another highlight was our first foray down the Conwy Valley bringing Afro Latin dance grooves to Trefriw Village Hall. Great night, great crowd! We’d love to go back and play there!
Festival season is upon us. And you may find the BBs at a wedding, party or beach near you! Check out our Myspace or connect with us on Facebook for up to date info

Sunday’s Launch was a blast! Thanks to all our friends, fans and families for coming along, dressing up and getting down. We had a fantastic day, bringing sunshine to a stormy sunday. Here are a few kind words from some of our more voluble supporters:
Just like to say how much everyone I was with enjoyed Sunday. It was a lovely atmosphere and great entertainment.Best wishes, Viv
I have just listened to ‘Bandabacana’: it’s great! I’ve been playing music (albeit in a ceilidh band) for 45 years, and listened to many albums and this is one of the best. It cheered me up driving to work, and that’s a real achievement. Bright, uplifting, unique and brilliantly produced, the world needs to hear it. Congratulations to you all. Barry (Dalton) Mooncoin
Cds arrived safely and what a cracker the Banda Bacana is! Craig
