The Oxfam shop in Porthmadog is 40 years old. To celebrate this milestone they’re hosting a gig and fundraiser at Porthmadog Football Club on Saturday 8th October.
Our very own Groove Farmer Owen is a volunteer in the shop, helping them price vinyl records, cds and sometimes musical instruments, that get donated. As such it seemed fitting that Banda Bacana should play. The event will be supporting Oxfam’s fund raising effort for the recent floods in Pakistan. The organisers thank sponsors Quaeck’s Furnishers Furniture Shop and Purple Moose Brewery.
Poor flood defences and a lack of development with around 46 million living under the poverty line, means Pakistan’s citizens are vulnerable to extreme weather events. A recent research paper found out of a population of 220 million as many as 50 million people have been living without access to electricity. Over August and September floods have damaged a million homes, roads have been left impassable cutting off communities, livestock has been lost, over 1,100 people have died. In total over 30 million people have been affected.
The DEC Pakistan Floods Appeal will be focusing on providing temporary shelter, food and drinking water for those displaced.
Please come to celebrate Oxfam’s birthday, have a dance, and raise some £££!
